Every diocese and every country, ranked by the statistics the Church itself reports. The Catholic Leaderboard shows baptisms, ordinations, seminarians, deacons, religious and more, how each has changed year over year, and which dioceses publish their financial reports.
Those reports are in Magisterium AI too, so you can ask questions about them: an overview of one diocese, or a comparison between two.
The Spiritual Leaderboard
The Spiritual Leaderboard ranks dioceses and countries by the sacramental and vocational statistics the Holy See publishes each year. Pick a metric, from baptisms and ordinations to seminarians, deacons and religious. Pick a year, with data going back to 1968. Filter to a country, or search for your diocese by name.
Go there to find out:
- Which dioceses baptise the most people?
- Where are vocations rising, and where are they falling?
- How has your own diocese changed over the decades?
The Financial Leaderboard
The Financial Leaderboard shows which dioceses publish their financial reports and how recent those reports are. Every diocese is marked Current, Outdated, or No public report. Countries are ordered by the share of their dioceses that publish. Search for your diocese, or filter by status.
Go there to find out:
- Does my diocese publish its accounts?
- How recent is its latest report?
- How does my country compare with the rest of the world?
Ask Magisterium AI about your diocese's finances
Every report counted on the leaderboard is also in Magisterium AI, so you can ask questions about it: an overview of one diocese, a comparison between two, or a specific line such as spending on schools or clergy care. Each answer cites the report it came from.
Try asking:
- Give me an overview of the Diocese of X's latest financial report.
- What were the Archdiocese of Y's main sources of income?
- Compare the finances of Diocese A and Diocese B.
Methodology
The full methodology is published alongside the leaderboard. In brief:
- Sources. Spiritual statistics come from the Holy See's own yearbooks, the Annuario Pontificio and the Annuarium Statisticum Ecclesiae. Financial reporting data is compiled and maintained by Magisterium AI from public registries and published diocesan reports.
- Rankings. Each ranking uses a single reported metric. There is no composite score and no weighting of ours. Per-capita rates, such as baptisms per 1,000 Catholics, are the default so that large and small dioceses compare fairly, with a minimum population for rate eligibility.
- Data quality. Figures are published as the Church reported them. Arithmetically impossible values are treated as missing, dioceses with no usable value are excluded with the count shown, and China and North Korea are unranked because the Holy See publishes no statistics for them.
- Financial status. A diocese is current when its latest public report is recent, and outdated when it is older. Disclosure is shaped by civil law as much as by choice, so a low rate is not by itself evidence of concealment.
- What the rankings are not. They are descriptive, not a measure of holiness, pastoral quality or fidelity, and year-over-year change is not a verdict on any bishop's ministry.
